I love this league so far. No off season, active owners, intense strategy. The only question I have is about FA. Maybe it has been discussed, but I look at what Jose Abreu signed for last year and see a loophole. While I believe those who hoard cap space should be rewarded, it seems less than realistic that an owner should be able to sign a player for one year at a ridiculous salary and then turn around and restrict that player. Why not allow RFA tags on players coming off of a salary of a specific length. You want to sign Abreu for 2 @ $66? More power to you. Seems less than realistic in a league that strives for realism.

Definitely agree with you O's. I believe I had mentioned that something needed to be changed with the regular season free agent signings. Adding year stipulations depending on the AAS sort of how we do RFA but make the scale a little higher, ie. 1yr contracts cant exceed $10M and so forth.

i am guilty of this myself. matt holliday when we first started. but i do agree that things should change on this. maybe have bid limits. after a certain amount, the contract has to be two years or more. or three years or more for a bid with a certain value
for FA AAS of $20m to $29,999,000 has to be for a minimum of two year AAS of $30m to $39,999,000 has to be for a minimum of three years AAS of $40m to $49,999,000 has to be for a minimum of four years
we already have limitations for RFA so that doesn't need to change

but positively no way to make it a rule this season, rules should be passed at least 1 season before enacting and preferably two for Dynasty leagues, the impact goes deeper than 1 season.

Typically, I would agree to wait at least a year to change a rule. In this case, it's such an obvious flaw, I think it should addressed immediately. However, I'm just an idea man, I'll leave the implementation to the higher powers. Above my pay grade.

It wouldn't both me to implement it this year but that leaves open for interpretation which rules can or can not be made for the current season. It just should be a standard practice to discuss and approve all rules to be effective at min the following season. Right now what 6 people out of 30 agree this should be put in place, over the season every owner could have input as well as you don't get snap judgement rules that would need to be adjusted or removed later.
Its not about the rule being right or wrong, its about the process of rule changes.

I understand the concern for precedent, but it comes down to whether or not it affects long term planning for a team. If it's a rule change that does, you take a year (or longer) to implement it. If not, why not implement it right away? We also don't need everyone's input, especially when it seems unanimous.
I agree with the rule change! I too think it should start this year. We haven't started FA so I guess I don't get why not this year? Rule changes should be done case by case not year by year especially if its a rule that has obvious flaws and it helps the league. IMO

I'd support this going into effect this year as well. Seeing a great deal of support here overall.
What exactly would be the official structure of years to AAS be if this rule should move forward? That would more likely be the sticking point for speedy action. Once enacted that would potentially be unfair to tinker with later.

I will tell you why not this year, I have planned out all my Fran Tags and RSA tags til '21 (of course they are adjustable), I will be bidding for a guy for a specific time frame so he can have a tag in a certain year. It will be very close on the amounts that would teeter it another year and screw up the plan.
I am sure that's more than most do but I space out my contracts so I won't have 4 studs contracts end at the same time.

All that really needs to be done is to say that a player signed for one year at a salary over a specified amount can't be franchised. But broken rules, in life and fantasy baseball, should be fixed immediately.
