I'm in. I am wondering if we hold to normal protection status it will help with players not using up a season. Multiple matchups might be fun, but I could go with any season/playoff structure.

I'm in. I think we prorate protection. If we are having a season, then protections should be used. If we were not having a season, I could see how we could extend everyone a year. If the player is playing and getting you stats for at least 25 games as a position player and maybe 20innings as a pitcher, the. He helped you. Why should their protection be extended?
119-94-1 Regular Season Record 6-3 Playoff Record
6x AL West Champion (2012-2016,2023) 2x AL Pennant Winner (2013,2015) 2015 PBs World Series Champion (19-3-1)
That's only 5 weeks when the MLB season will be longer than that.
We could do a round robin schedule to determine playoff teams, but I really don't want to figure out how that would work with limited time.
Right now, the schedule I already proposed to the league office would have an almost equal amount of time devoted to regular season and postseason.
I'm open to modifying it, but I don't think starting playoffs week 1 and having half the league wait all this time to be eliminated in one week is very fun
The possibility of Mike Trout sitting out raises this concern for me, but i know others will have similar concerns.
What can/should we do about players who voluntarily sit the year out?
Possibly an additional protection tag?
Possibly a LTIR situation? Where they don't count against the cap this year?
So the people who play under a partial season don’t get extra protection or a ‘tag’ but guys who sit out voluntarily do? He just wants to sit out because of the his new born. Not every player gets to comfortably make that decision like he can. If we are fair to ‘all’ if we have a season and everyone who plays, in our league, loses a year of protection, then that should include all those who voluntarily sit out

So as I said before, I think players signed to deals should lose 2020 no matter how much they play, while players going through protection should have their seasons prorated (potentially requiring more games as a percentage of the year than normal, e.g., 25-30 for hitters, 15-20 IP for pitchers). I’m pro-gaining some sort of additional tag (perhaps only a one year tag, rather than a full franchise tag), but only for free agents unless maybe someone declares an intent to apply that tag to a player protected long term but only if they sit out the year entirely (e.g., Trout). Thoughts?

Non protected players should burn their 2020 contracts for sure but with the universal DH in play and such a short season I feel protected player contracts should be rolled over to 2021. Owners put a lot of time/effort/strategy in drafting and trading for these players to be burned in an experimental and wasted season seems unnecessary. Nobody gains anything for burning a protected players season this year. Just my opinion.

You're acting like he's the only one. Already a whole handful of players have committed to sitting 9ut. I offered a suggestion on how to handle it.
If you want to say that it's no different from a player getting injured and getting nothing from them, then if that's what we decide, so be it. But yes, there is a difference between getting something from a player with a championship on the line, and not getting anything out of them at all

What about a Covid-19 Tag? Like this season is gonna be a very condensed version of what we usually have, so why not allow a team to retain one player on an expiring contract as a middle ground? Because some teams made significant trades for short term pieces in an attempt to win this season. Especially if there is no prize pool I think this should be an option that should be discussed.

I'm against prorating PP. And with the contrast between pitchers and hitters, I lean towards a PP freeze. Prorating to 50% is five starts and fifteen innings. not enough imo. Keeping at normal eligibility thresholds means a ton pitchers will not hit qualifying year. Also a problem.
