When I first came into the league, everyone did their own spreadsheets but there were plenty of questionable owners at the time. I honestly think there are at least 29 if not 30 owners in this league currently that would take care of their own stuff and it wouldn't be put on 1 person or even 2 and it should go back to that. It takes the joy out of it after 1 person doing it, I was that guy in past leagues, that were less than 30 teams and why I keep volunteering to help any time its needed because it has be soul sucking as more teams have become active.
This league is ready for that and then Hollar or someone can just observe it. Its absolutely too much work for a few.
Unless somehow the All Star system works, that seems very tight.
I agree something needs to be done here. I feel this is to much for one person. Maybe divide the work up by jobs (Trades, FA's, offseason, etc)
Allstar works well because Amy and I dedicate a ton of time to keep everything on the up and up. Hollar does a great job but it shouldn't be a one person task...

In the spirit of the upcoming Halloween festivities next month, I am resurrecting this thread from the grave ...
What if we assign someone from each division to update the rosters in their own division? If we are concerned about someone messing up the Google sheets, we could just have 6 separate Google sheets, one for each division. Would be a bit more challenging to search, but it seems it would be preferable to have them up to date rather than easily searchable. Surely there must be someone in each division who we trust to do the task correctly.
To be clear, this post is not a jab at Hollar -- keeping that document up to date must be a monumental task with all the transactions that occur in this league!
Also, maybe we should have a way to annotate when each transaction has been updated ... like the person completing the update makes a post in the transaction thread (trade, release, etc) that the Google sheets have been updated for that transaction?
One down side to having multiple sheets would be, if a trade gets updated on one division's sheet and not the other, then the same player could be listed on two teams in the separate sheets.

Also, since the spreadsheet has not been updated since, as Hollar put it, "4/20 lol" ... maybe for the first task this offseason we could assign each team a "buddy". Buddies will check over their buddy's roster to make sure it is tight ... an in-depth review to verify that EVERY "I" is dotted and every "t" is crossed.
Then, we could just update the roster based upon the final copy of each team roster and be able to start fresh for 2022.
With 5 months of transactions, it will be a monumental task for anyone or any team of owners to get the thing updated.
Finally, if we split the task up by division, we ought to have dedicated thread where the designated "Keeper of the Google Sheet" for each division will post each week by, say, Sunday at midnight that the rosters for his/her division were updated with all transactions for that week. Maybe Wednesday night at midnight would be a better choice since FA gets posted on Saturdays?

So, yeah. Great to be here. For those of you who don't know, I work in restaurants, which has made the last year an interesting one. And while it has been very challenging this year, the demand is certainly there, which doesn't help. At all. My job kinda became all-consuming timewise this summer, which led to me shutting down non-essential life functions to attempt to not lose my mind. I love y'all, but this corner of the internet went in the non-essential box. I make no claim this was the best way to handle things, but it's what I went for. Anyway, I am currently between jobs (Though I really should get one soon, because it turns out life costs money), and I'll do what I can with the extra free time I have right now to catch things up, but I definitely can't keep this thing up going forward. If there are ideas other than the ones posted, let's hear them.

I am truly amazed that one person was able to keep the spreadsheet up-to-date until now … huge thanks to you for doing that.
It seems to me that the challenge with having multiple people responsible for a single spreadsheet is, that means no one really has responsibility for it. I suppose we could have separate tabs in the spreadsheet for each division, but it would only take one error by someone who accidentally deletes some data or innocently reformat something not realizing the implications to blow the whole thing up.
As an alternative to my idea above (and piggy-backing on Mike’s original post), since we archive each season’s team pages, maybe we could pair up owners to check each other’s rosters, then have one owner from each division report changes to team cap situations to one person who maintains only the “cover page” of the spreadsheet. If we keep that updated every week, then worst case scenario if a team doesn’t keep their roster up to date (one owner hasn’t even posted a roster yet!) and then leaves, then the new owner can start with the updated roster from last year and capture transactions made that season.

Resurrecting this thread again ... if we are going to make a change to having more folks take over the spreadsheet (or to just maintain a "main page" spreadsheet with totals only), then we ought to make the change early in the offseason so we can wring out the kinks before the action gets started in January.
Somehow, I think we need to give Hollar some help. His efforts up to now have been just short of heroic (ok, I'll go there ... it has been heroic!), but that job is more than one person (no matter how heroic) should be asked to handle.

Bringing this thread back to the top.
Ethan (D'Backs) suggested over on Discord that we should put a roster freeze in place until the spreadsheet gets completely caught up. I think we ought to give very serious consideration to this idea.
We could take the next month to get the rosters sorted out and the spreadsheet updated. If it takes less time, then we could consider un-freezing rosters sooner, but I think we are running the danger of losing control over who owns whom.
Sorry if you feel that was rude. I didn't intend it to be. I should of posted this was being worked on. I did with the rest of the CO but I suppose I should of let the rest of the league know as well, maybe. We certainly do not need to stop production for anything. The issue of letting a few people do updates to it should still be on the table though.
Please do not be quiet... you are doing good work.
