I think we need to re-assess the RFA compensation.
I don't necessarily think that the pick conceded by the team winning the RFA bid, needs to be the same pick as the pick given to the team previously owning the RFA player.
I think the compensation losses and gains need to better reflect the price paid for the player-
For example- If you win the player in RFA
Player won in RFA is paid an AAS of- Upto $10M - loss of 3rd round selection Over $10M & upto $15M - loss of 2nd round selection Over $15M - loss of 1st round selection
Player loss in RFA is paid an AAS of- Upto $10M - compensation is supplementary 3rd round selection (at end of 3rd round) Over $10M & upto $15M - supplementary 2nd round pick selection Over $15M - supplementary 1st round pick
This would stop the potential delimma where both the Nats & Rays lose players to Atlanta, both players have an AAS of $20M, both $140M total over 7 years. Under current rules Atlanta losses its 2nd & 3rd round draft picks, which will go to the Nats & Rays as compensation.
2 issues, a player paid $140M over 7 years is worth more than a 2nd round draft pick as compensation, and which team of Nats & Rays is awarded the 2nd round pick, leaving the other with a 3rd round pick.
Under the proposed example, Atlanta would loss its 1st & 2nd round picks, and both Nats & Rays would receive a supplementary 1st round pick as compensation.

Thanks for looking into this. But it has already been changed. Here are the rules. And while we are at it, we are working to integrate all rules currently in CO Notes into the Official Rules thread. when that's complete, we'l lannounce it so everyone can read through again at their own pace.
RFA Compensation
a. If a team declines to match an offer for a RFA, then that team will receive a pick in the supplemental round in the following draft. The supplemental round will take place in between the first and second rounds, and will be ordered based on the AAS of contracts signed by all declined to match RFAs.
