Hi folks ... John, the new Cards owner, here.
I think I am getting a decent handle on things here. I have time for most things, but I would like to ask for a few folks to take a look at my new 2021 Cards roster and tell me a couple things:
1) I can drop one "bad" contract in my first 72 hours. The most obvious option at first glance is Michael Conforto, who is 51M this season. However, at second glance, I do not need the cap room this season (trying to be competitive, but no chance of winning) and, in 2022, his contract drops to 34M with an AAV of 25.5M over those final 4 years of the contract. I think I will have a hard time finding a free agent under 30 who is a consistent OF bat and costs less than 25.5M AAV. Thoughts? Is there any other contract that makes sense to drop (Michael A. Taylor? Will he get back to being productive with a change of scenery?). My inclination is to not drop any contracts at all, but I would appreciate any opposing views and a check on my logic with regards to value in this league.
2) I am not asking for a comprehensive roster check, but if anyone notices anything that I have missed please let me know.

Also, regarding non-tendering contracts in the offseason, is the following correct?
As long as I post the players I am non-tendering by the appropriate date (Jan 6, 2021 if I recall correctly), I can non-tender any minor league player on an AAV contract (non-MLB contract) and I can non-tender any prospect (1-5 year player who has not exceeded 5 years of "service" of 50 GP, 10 GS, or 30 IP) not on an MLB contract without penalty.
Is that correct?
I have not made final roster decisions (plenty of time for that), but I have indicated on my Cards roster page the players I am considering non-tendering -- if someone could take a look and verify that the players I indicated are in fact eligible for a non-tender without penalty (as long as posted before the deadline), I would appreciate it.

Yes. Any Protected Player (PP) or minor leaguer can be non-tendered before the deadline. Prospects dropped from your farm are free to drop at any time.

I did not see anything in the rules about players on the IL. Do we just have to keep a spot for them on the 40-man roster if they are on the real world IL? Or can you get them off the 40-man temporarily and then make a spot for them when they come off the real world IL?
Yes. Any Protected Player (PP) or minor leaguer can be non-tendered before the deadline. Prospects dropped from your farm are free to drop at any time.
I'd like to clarify that this only goes for players making $1M or less, with no MLB appearances.
