Wait... didnt Schilling, Clemens, and Bonds use PEDs? Hmmmm...
Schilling was not listed in the Mitchell report, and he declined to be interviewed for it because he said he could only offer opinions.
To the best of my knowledge, the only connections between Schilling and PEDs are:
1) His statements against steroid use, such as saying that Jose Canseco's statistics should be thrown out and Roger Clemens should be stripped of his 4 Cy Young awards won after 1997 because of his steroid use.
2) He told Theo Epstein that he had been approached by a member of the Red Sox organization (not someone in baseball operations and not a player) about using steroids to recover from an injury, and Theo Epstein took the allegations to the MLB front office.
Someone will have to point out what I am missing with Curt Schilling and PEDs.
As a side note, here is an interesting article from the Baseball Hall of Fame about the "bloody sock". Mac, where did you find the info regarding Schilling injecting something into his ankle? He had a torn tendon sheath, and the team doctor sutured the ankle skin to the tissue surrounding the tendon in an attempt to get him through the game so he could pitch.
Incidentally, if Roger Clemens was not juiced, would he have won the Cy Young Award in 2001 and 2004? One of the major arguments I have heard against Schilling's HoF bid is "He never won a Cy Young Award" ... well, he was second in Cy Young voting 4 times, and guess who he was second to in 2001 and 2004? Roger Clemens.
I am sure someone with more baseball knowledge than I will point out the errors in my research, but it seems pretty clear to me that Curt Schilling was not a steroid user.
Schilling used to inject himself in the ankle...hence the bloody sock. Dude is as dirty as he is ugly
Is there a reference for that accusation? I am asking because I have never heard the accusation before, other than from people who just don't like his politics.
Not to mention driving his video game company into the ground and nearly bankrupting Rhode Island in the process
I don't think he nearly bankrupted Rhode Island ... their own government's incompetence has done that. They offered him $75M in loan guarantees to lure his company from Massachusetts to Rhode Island. Guess what happens when governments act like venture capitalists? Bad things happen.
But what does his post-baseball business failure have to do with the Hall of Fame?
I'm not a big Curt Schilling fan. I think he is a knucklehead ... not because I disagree with him completely, but because he is an entertainer, and I think entertainers ought to keep their personal beliefs to themselves. Why, as an entertainer or other public non-politics figure, would you want to alienate a segment of the population?
Bottom Line: If he does not get in the Hall of Fame, it will not be because he just wasn't good enough. It will be because the voters don't like his politics. Because I find that reason unjust, I support his candidacy. He may end up having to wait until the Eras Committee votes him in, but I am confident he will be inn the Hall of Fame.

Governments guarantee loans all the time. No big. They took a chance and it failed. What schilling did to those employees was heartless. He just stopped paying them for almost a month, canceled their healthcare and he froze all the employees’ 401k programs, and then, via email, told them the business was bankrupt. Schilling left the company for an ESPN studio gig while the 38 Studios employees were left to fend for themselves. Gutless if you ask me. What does it have to do with this hall of fame, absolutely nothing.
But what does his post-baseball business failure have to do with the Hall of Fame?
Nothing, of course. I just personally find the man a jackass. And since my vote doesn't matter, I can hold it against him (though you're right, despite my opinion of the man's politics, the real HoF should not hold that against him).
And the game the studio made, Kingdoms of Amalur, is an underrated gem.

Schilling is an asshole and I hate his "politics" (i.e., he doesn't seem to care about actually debating intellectual ideas and cares more about name-calling, or worse), but he was one helluva pitcher and did not cheat the game (as far as we know). He should be in the Hall of Fame.

Well, with a rather anticlimactic finish, no one was inducted into the PB Hall of Fame this year.
With 22 voters, 17 votes were needed to be inducted and 2 votes were needed to remain on the ballot.
Barry Bonds, receiving 72.7% of the votes needed, fell just one vote shy.
Mark Buehrle, AJ Burnett, Michael Cuddyer, Dan Haren, Latroy Hawkins, Aramis Ramirez, Nick Swisher, Shane Victorino, and Barry Zito all fall of the ballot.
Voting Results: Barry Bonds - 16 votes (72.7%) Roger Clemens - 12 votes (54.5%) Curt Schilling - 11 votes (50.0%) Scott Rolen - 10 votes (45.5%) Manny Ramirez - 9 votes (40.9%) Gary Sheffield - 7 votes (31.8%) Jeff Kent - 5 votes (22.7%) Todd Helton - 4 votes (18.2%) Andruw Jones - 4 votes (18.2%) Billy Wagner - 4 votes (18.2%) Tori Hunter - 3 votes (13.6%) Andy Pettitte - 3 votes (13.6%) Sammy Sosa - 3 votes (13.6%) Omar Vizquel - 3 votes (13.6%) Bobby Abreu - 2 votes (9.1%) Tim Hudson - 2 votes (9.1%) Mark Buehrle - 1 vote (4.5%) AJ Burnett - 1 vote (4.5%) Latroy Hawkins - 1 vote (4.5%) Michael Cuddyer - 0 votes (0.0%) Dan Haren - 0 votes (0.0%) Aramis Ramirez - 0 votes (0.0%) Nick Swisher - 0 votes (0.0%) Shane Victorino - 0 votes (0.0%) Barry Zito - 0 votes (0.0%)
