Lately, there has been concern over the long term status of the league in regards to roster imbalances given wins serving as the primary tiebreaker in head to head matchups. It has been noted that it is advantageous for contending teams to stockpile starting pitchers to accumulate as many wins in the event of ties, making it extremely difficult for teams building to acquire the SPs they need to contend with those that already have the SPs.
As a result, the Commissioner's Office has decided on a new tiebreaker to promote greater roster balance, with an emphasis on the major counting stats. With the new tiebreaker, HRs, SBs, Ws and HOLDS will be added together, and the team with the higher total will win the weekly matchup. An example of how this would breakdown is as follows.
Example: Nationals and Royals each win 6 categories.
In this situation, the Royals would be granted the tiebreaker and receive the win in the matchup. As you can see now, there isn't an inherent advantage to stockpiling SPs, as it potentially takes away holds. Likewise, with two hitting and pitching categories contributing to the tiebreaker, it shouldn't be advantageous to stockpiling a better offense or pitching staff.
In the event that there is still a tie in the new points system, the matchup will result in a tie. In the playoffs, the win will be awarded to the higher-seeded team.

The new 4 category tiebreaker for 2014
Total amount in each category: HR+SB+W+SV being the first tiebreaker and only tiebreaker in the regular season. In the event of a true tie then it would remain a tie. In the playoffs, after the first tiebreaker, if there is still a tie then the higher seed will advance.

If Championship game is tied then we will use the following tiebreakers
1. Regular season tiebreaker: the total amount of HR+SB+W+SV
if still tied,
2. the total amount of R+RBI+H+K
if tied still, we use ERA
if tied still, we use AVG
if tied still, we use WHIP.
3 if still tied we use the following - Tabasco chugging - Deathmatch - Who can throw a baseball the farthest - Guessing numbers - A footrace - Who can solve math problems fastest - Who can hold their breath longer - Who can withstand Barney longer - Draw straws - Coin flip
