I'll get the exact contracts but here's how it works. A player under 5 year protection is paid whatever their real-life salary is for each individual year. You have the ability to non-tender any player under that protection at the end of each season if you don't want them. Cutting them mid-season is a cap hit for the rest of that season only.
I'm assuming that these players would be paid 500k until they lose MiLB eligibility but Preston would have to weigh in on that to be sure.
Jairo Beras , TEX didnt sign an ML contract , so he would be listed as a regular prospect contract of $.4M and then real life salary when it is known.
So the contracts for Puig and Soler will be for 5 protected years. Highly unlikely either cracks the bigs this year, so next year you would add the next year listed on their contracts. You get them for 5 qualifying seasons for contract listed.
So say Puig and Soler dont make bigs till 2015 season, then their 1st year of protection starts then and their contracts would end in 2019 if they remain regulars.
Im not an admin, but that is how the rules have be interpreted before and my understanding.
