It's not your job to protect me. Vetoes in a salary cap/prospect league make little, to no sense. If Machado blows his knee out again and Cron hits 20 HRs, while Foltynewicz becomes the Astros closer, the trade quickly should have been vetoed in the other direction. When it comes to vetoes, less is more.

As mentioned in every trade decision, please respect the decision of the Trade Panel and reserve conversations about the trade with those individuals privately. Recognize that deals involving new GMs are often criticized more heavily, as some GMs have come in and consistently made poor deals that have harmed those franchises for a long time and threatened the integrity of the league. As seen with the Marlins/Rays deal, an initial veto does not mean that a deal cannot ultimately be worked out; discuss with the TP to find the changes that need to be made so that you can ultimately complete your trade.

Agree with both posts. Josh has in his short-time with this league shown that he knows what he is doing, and needs no protection.
In regard to the trade panel, and it's role within this league, I understand the need, but as this off-season has shown, the people on the trade panel need to be held responsible for poor decisions, or the trade panel gets new voters.
The previous trade panel were led by the thoughts of 1-2 people, all other voters would hold-off casting their vote until the 1or 2 had voted. Unfortunately the 1 or 2 leading we're biased, and voted not based on the trade, but what the trade would mean for their team. If 2 development teams were involved the trade would be approved without a 2nd thought, but if a team offering a threat appeared to be getting what they needed to be more competitive, then the voters got worried, and would start thinking veto, regardless of the trade itself.
Anyhow fortunately the trade panel is being renewed, hopefully to weed out those 1or 2 GM's who voted based on the impact to their own team.
I'm not trying to disrespect the TP or it's process, simply pondering how one applies objective guidelines to subjective trades. If I think Player X is injury prone and over-hyped, I should be able to trade him for what I deem a fair return. Should not be in the hands of the trade police to determine the fairness of any deal. How many teams passed on Mike Trout? It is not the members of the TP I take issue with, it's the directive. That's the last I'll say on the subject as I move on to repair my deal.

Donovan, aside from greed for your own team to get a good player and move an awful contract, does it not bother you to take a weaker team's best player and hand them a pile of shitty players one who has a terrible contract that will plague the team for the next 5 years? If you actually cared about the otherall well being of the league, this would bother you. Just because you can take advantage of another GM, doesn't mean you should. I could also go screw other GMs but I don't want a superstar team in a weak league, I want a good team in a good league. I got a trade vetoed this past summer that was more reasonable than yours. And not once did I complain bc I believe I can build a strong team through making even deals.
Oh and I just checked. You voted to veto my deal this summer.... Just sayin'.
I don't disagree with some of your points in this thread. My disagreement comes from your general attitude of outrage towards having your trade vetoed.

I don't get the veto outrage. In general the TP allows through a lot of deals I find absolutely horrendous, and the veto is wielded very little.
I play in a similar league which exists in a world of 10 super teams, 5 mediocre teams, 5 owners in a rebuild after taking over a crappy team, and 10 absolute shit franchises that are in constant turnover because they are absolutely shit and are exploited every time they get new ownership. It makes the league less fun to play in and makes new players feel unwelcome. The goal of the TP is to keep the league fair. This includes shielding new owners while they get a feel for the format, prevent blatant exploitation, prevent collusion, and prevent the strip mining of franchises to the point where no owner will take the spot.
I am sure the Orioles feel they have made a great deal based on their evaluations and the TP is wrong, then rework the deal and make your case why it makes sense for your team. On the other hand, the Rays, you are acting like a petulant child whose parents won't let you take advantage of the kid down the street.

Un-freakin-believable. As a person more than privy to the operations of this league, I'd like to clear somethings:
1) the Rays are obviously pretty pissed right now due to a double veto 2) as a co-commish and former TP member, I have defended Rays early actions and asked for clemency for disparaging comments he made about league office a few days back. 3) the reason I defended him was because the TP was trying to transition to new people and I think it's fair to say they done went and got a little veto-happy. Rays had all the right to be a little pissed. 4) how ever, it is made very clear all such conversations just be had in PM precisely because of something like this! One dude just can't get asshurted and try to crash the entire league 5) it became clear to me that the TP simply needed some diversification. So after talking to a few of you, we decided to make TP a yearly election so new blood could cycle through. Once again, there are no damn shenanigans going on. 6) I will talk to LO and see if we can open up those threads so you can see the debate or something of the sort if it is truly required. 7) New teams will receive scrutiny in the early going. The longer you are an owner, the more laissez faire it becomes. It does not take long to get past this "stage" and owners should remember this is a DYNASTY league and is designed for longterm. 8) A week away from free agency, I think people tend to get a little antsy. 9) if you have questions, please feel free to pm me directly and concerns will be addressed. 10) expect disciplinary measures to be taken because this is literally the one rule of behavior for this league. 11) ugh.

Dude. You did nothing wrong. Baltimore didn't do a damn thing wrong. Like Indians said - vetoed trades are fully expected to be tweaked and sent back through. All I can say is everyone enjoy the new year and have fun preparing for free agency. We will get the trade panel elected here in a bit and if anyone wants a real look - volunteer!

I echo everything Beau said.
I'm disappointed with some of the comments here, especially from veterans that I have respect for. We've done a great job transitioning from a league with the power largely in the hands of one (me) to one much more democratic, and I regret I couldn't have done that sooner! We've got a lot of smart and unselfish individuals here in positions of power that are always looking out for the league first. I don't think the trade panel we had was flawed and I have largely agreed with their decisions, when thinking first and foremost about the health of the league. I loved Beau's idea and it will make the league even better. Let's chalk up this hostility to a little frustration and anxiousness ahead of free agency, but, it's still unacceptable. We might have to take a look at some of these comments further.
Most importantly though, hope everyone had a happy holidays, and will have a happy and safe New Years. Looking forward to another spectacular offseason and 2015 season.
