Divisional Trade!? |

Strasburg Signs Early |
The three big outfielders get paid, in the first wave of players to go this Free Agency. The Houston Astros agreed to sign outfielder Melky Cabrera to a 2-year, $9 million deal, AAS. The Astros were not afraid to throw the money at the one time steroid user. The Houston Astros general manager, Jeremy, had this to say if Cabrera were to use steroids, again.
"If he performs better, I will just look the other way."
Alex Gordon was also signed to a 3-year deal, $11.1 million, AAS. The Boston Red Sox made the bid, which is currently the largest contract this off-season. Finally, Curtis Granderson signed a 1-year, $9.2 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. Granderson hopes to re-gain his value this season and cash in, next off-season. However, with already a $9.2 million deal it is hard to think Granderson will get more then that next off-season.
The American League evens up the World Series count total too three! The Texas Rangers not only capture there very first World Series title but also there divisions first Title. The team has made the playoffs 5-times but not once prevailed to win the exclusive title, until 2015.
The National League will look to gain some revenge on the American League this year, in hopes of winning the 4th World Series title. As of right now, it looks like the American League has the best chance of winning number four with the current rosters but the Colorado Rockies could be a team to spoil another title, with Mike Trout, Carlos Correa, Chris Archer and company on there side.
"I cannot believe the team win, I was starting to think I had the Buffalo Bills making the playoffs each and every year but never doing anything with it, Texas Rangers general manager Victor says. "The 5th time is truly the charm."
Not something you see everyday, unless you are in fantasy baseball, a divisional trade. The Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles agreed on a huge deal, sending star players to each team, deal is currently pending approval by the board.
Rays send-
OF - Carlos Gomez (HOU) - $10M (2016), $15M (2017-2019), $20M (2020)
CI - Travis Shaw (BOS) - $0.5075M (PP2/5)
SP - Nick Martinez (TEX) - $0.515M (PP3/5)
Orioles send-
SP - Gio Gonzalez (NATS) - $12M (2016)
CI - Yangervis Solarte (SD) - $0.525M (PP3/5)
Carlos Gomez, was the big piece in the deal and with the Orioles failing to sign any big name outfielders that is who they sought out to get. Look for the Baltimore Orioles to go after a big name starting pitcher this off-season, after dealing Gio Gonzalez.
"The Rays agree to this deal, as it solidifies our starting pitching, we also think that Solarte will provide more output than Shaw this season as he will have less competition for a full-time MLB position, Rays general manager Donovan says." We loss Gomez in the deal whose power/speed combination will be hard to replace, but we have more depth at OF than at CI.
"
The main risk that Baltimore has is the troubling attitude Carlos Gomez brings to the team. Gomez is known for his arrogant attitude, he has had quite a few questionable displays on the field but we will see if the Orioles can fix the star-player, in the long-run.
Free Agency for the starting pitchers, start up this week and Chen, Latos, Cashner and Colon seem to be the biggest names out on the market. Wei-Yin Chen might be the highest player this off-season but he was asking for a 5-year, $100 million deal, earlier this winter. It is unclear and unlikely that Chen and Boras manage to pull off a contract of that nature.
As of right now, the White Sox, Orioles and Nationals seem to be the main players for free agent starting pitchers. That could change over the course of the week. Look for at least one of these teams to come out with Chen, Latos, Cashner, or Colon. The Orioles might be bigger players on Colon for a low-risk. While, the Nationals and White Sox could be big players on Chen and Cashner, despite the risk that comes with Cashner.
Stephen Strasburg signs quick and easy. The Boston Red Sox agreed to a massive deal with young phenom starting pitcher, Stephen Strasburg. The former general manager signed Strasburg to a 7-year, $26 million deal. The 7-year deal is the max years allowed and to put it on a unhealthy player like Strasburg, was quite the question mark but Boras and Strasburg are quite happy with the deal.
The Atlanta Braves owner Tim, had this to say, when seeing the bid on his former player. "WOW! I decline to match way to rich for me!"
