WARNING - Roto rankings do not mean much in H2H and I do not have any methods other than using the current roto stats combined with an I test, so very unofficial. Also in the course of 3 days, amazed how many teams go up and down daily after 6 weeks.
This season is shaping up to be the best season this league has seen. Simply put, GOOD participation from all 30 teams. Its gone from an approximate 10 team league to a 12, 17,20,25,28 to 30 over the last 7 seasons. With more teams keeping their prospects and young mlb breakout players, it seems so many teams can snap off a good win streak. With that said, here go the Roto Rankings.
1) San Francisco Giants - Even - Most balanced team in the league and it shows, high of 29th and low of 22nd in categories. Josh Bell would have to crash hard for this to not be his breakout season. Gary Sanchez staying healthy will be the difference maker. Strength- HR/K, Weakness- Saves, Best add on - Kennedy (CL?)
2) Colorado Rockies - Even - Cody Bellinger is showcasing exactly what he is after setting MLB NL HR record his 1st season, now with a better knowledge of pitchers. Bad news, if he cools off Mike Trout hasn't got hot yet. Rockies played some tough teams out of the gate, he won't lose 2 games the rest of the season. Strength- R/AVE/Saves, Weakness- Holds, Best add on - Fry RP
3) Chicago White Sox - Up - A team with soft SPs before the season, then Glasno, who? Glasnow, who? TYLER GLASNOW. Passed up the once magical 180 inn mark for break out pitchers at the end of last season and boom. K-tel marte seems to be bringing the hits and has found his power. If Martin takes over closer role it would be huge for them. Strength - SB/R Weakness - Saves, Best add on - Rebuilt pen, Martin/Tomlin/Weick
4) Pittsburg Pirates - Even - This team's top 4 RP wow. The biggest hitting help has come from the Royals for just letting Soler play. Giving the turtle some ab's in the 8 spot over what looks like a completely done Kinsler. (revision done and suspended Kinsler) Strength- holds, weakness- R/SB. Best add on - Maybin OF
5) Cleveland Indians - Up - Hottest team in the league right here. There is two reasons this team hasn't jumped to number 1 or 2 yet, Segura + Polanco = 2 SB's. that's it. 2 break out pitchers in German and Castillo and a resurgent Alex Gordon. Nola hasn't even got hot yet. SP,BP, hitting, hitting and pitching depth. This is the team that could run all the way to a Championship. Strength - W, Weakness - PHI and PIT's 3rd base coaches, Best add on - Workman RP
6) Los Angeles Angels - Down - Hitting is where it was projected - Dozier hot, Murphy not, should balance out. Got two speed guys, neither can get AB's, well because neither can hit. With an older team, getting the annoying injuries, back, fingers, poor eye sight. Break out seasons for Dozier and Weaver. Versatility a plus. Casey Mize destroying the minors, do they dare call him up? Kimbrel still not signed. Luck is running out. Strength - RBI, Weakness - K, Best add on - Brennan
7) Chicago Cubs - Down - Power outage? Matt Carpenter should warm up with the weather. Garver trying to break out as a top 5 catcher. Has the pitching, the era/whip should correct itself. Garver, Lowrie and Upton come back for IL with that pitching, could make this team very dangerous again. Strength - R/SB/Saves, Weakness- Jarrod Dyson having more HR than most hitters on the team. Best add on - Jeimer
8) Washington Nationals - UP - Wait? What? a 1-5 team? That right, some unlucky bounces in H2H. Lindor back, pitching holding down the fort. Now Brendan Rodgers call up. This has all the makings of a comeback story better than Dodgeball. Who need hitting depth when you have youth. Strength - era/whip, Weakness Saves/wins, best add on Forsyth
9) Atlanta Braves - UP - With a young team, numbers will be up and down. Having the best SP in the league has given this team some stability. 5 rookie hitters and a questionable BP will see this team win some they shouldn't and lose some they shouldn't. Nationals could still catch them. Strength - the rookies, Weakness - the rookies, Best add on - Cesar Hernandez
10) Toronto Blue Jays - Down - I have seen a lot of fantasy baseball teams and leagues, never have I seen a team that looks like it could win it all, tear it apart so soon. Granted, MVP hitter 60-70 points below average, MVP candidate 100 points below ave and another primary hitter 50 points below doesn't happen very often either. There should be a big correction soon, if not the Blue Jays may be doing the right thing in giving up a chance to go back to back. Strength - era/whip, SP Weakness Ave/OPS Best add on - finding the next guy to start next to Altuve.
11) Minnesota Twins - Even - The RL Twins must have found the right lake to bath in. Almost every Twins player that is a Twins player is out to have career seasons. Many top prospects have gotten the call up earlier than years past, Vlad has stumbled just like most of the rookies do at some point. But this is Vlad, he will be talked about with Griffey and Bonds in the bloodline talks. Fun fact - Terrance Gore has matched his CS for career, in 6 weeks. Strength- Twins players, Weakness - save/holds, Best add on - Ryan Harper BP
12) San Diego Padres - Down - SPs not up to the Padres normal standard. 4 players bouncing around the .200 club, just one needs to break free. Talk around KC was Nicky Lopez was going to get called up before Sept, think this is before september and they put him between Whit and Mondosi. Flores will get hot soon. Strength - Hold - Weakness - SB/K, Best add on - Pineda
13) Tampa Bay Rays - UP - A team that struggled early just made a brilliant move to put a shock in a team with little life lately. A team that seemed to be just going through the motions. Bust out years for Odorizzi and Giolito offset with down starts by Sale and Rodriquez. Best hitter was the C Chirnos til Rizzo finally came to life last week. Maybe one of the best win-win trades involving superstars this league has seen and could vault the Rays up quickly. Strength- Wins, Weakness - Ave. Best add on - Kolarek til next time.
14) Arizona D-Backs - UP - team got no love early but what it had wasn't in the projections. In a true deep fantasy maneuver, he is using an old school tactic that very rarely teams use but is an ideal way to build a team. I won't divulge it in case it was intentional. If intentional, so much props that I can't describe. Strength - Best combined ERA/WHIP, Weakness -needs a rookie hitter to hit, Best add on - whoever hits out of the call ups.
15) Milwaukee Brewers - Up - Another team I love what they did. Have some injuries piling up, go get some FAs to fill in. Season looked in jeopardy with Gennett and Judge hitting the DL. If they can hold the fort til they get back and Mil can go on a run and be a scary playoff team with no quit in them. Thats a move in a 30 team league where depth will be hard to come by now. Strength - holds, Weakness - era/sb, Best add on - 3 starting hitters
16) Phil Phillies - even - People forgot La Stella was a top prospect in the Braves system coming up. Nobody would give a full time chance. Well hello. The big news though is getting Sano back. BP still good with Miller walking people for some reason. Strength - sb, Weakness - era. Best add on - none? unless I missed him
17) Cin Reds - even - Very good move to get Price to give his SP a rock for a few years. Then he heads to IL. Good lineup, good bullpen, good depth, looooong IL list with SPs the dominate position. Going to need to get a few back and find a guy who can steal a base to save this season. Could hurt some division teams still. Strength - holds/ops, Weakness - Back strain, elbows, Best add on - Price SP
18) New York Mets - down - This team frustrates me, the last 2 seasons I keep thinking this will be the team to break out. I see great SPs and get blinded. Col pitchers are better in real life than fantasy. 6 out of 8 lineup is strong. Strength - SP, Weakness BP, Best add on - Gio
19) New York Yankees - UP - Quite a few suprise seasons happening on this team or maybe surprise to those who don't own the yankees. Ohtani back and a few more on the way back could bother some teams facing them. The bullpen is sort of impressive. They have a real shot at the East. 6 rookies starting and getting ready for next season. Strength- W/K Weakness -SB/Ave, Best add on - Walden
20) LA Dodgers - UP - This team, with 2 average MI and 2 RP, could do some damage THIS year. It's similar to looking at a puzzle with some pieces missing. RP overall would be very hard to rebuild, but LA doesn't have a problem trading for it when he needs it. This team could take over the West next season. Strength - SP, Weakness - Save/holds, Best add on - Ramirez.
21) Bal Orioles - down - Going to need to get some call ups before they can build around something. D Smith, a great get to build with while Preston Tucker signed in Korea. The group of Smith, Boyd, Vasquez will be a good group to start with. Getting MLB experience is all this team needs to get. Strength - AVE, Weakness - Holds, Best add on Dwight Smith Jr
22) Houston Astros - even - Finally gets Hicks back and rest of the hitting has been cold. Pen makes this team dangerous but maybe the best FA pick up of the year so far is Spencer Turnbull. Bonus is he can outbid almost everyone for any breakout players the rest of the season or take on a big contract. Strength save/holds, Weakness HR, Best add on Spencer Turnbull.
23) Oakland A's - down - Hitting has be average, SPs average, pen has looked good. Cano and Puig just having their cold streaks early. This team is good and a hot stretch is coming. Did think Hicks would get plenty of non catcher ABs. Strength - Saves, Weakness- ERA/Whip, Best add on - Kelvin G.
24) Seattle Mariners - Down - Pitching, Felix H is not on PEDs. Neither is Cody A and Shelby M. Severino is looking like post all star break. Hitting is young and again the bones of this team are there, just not ready yet. Strength - RBI/Hold, Weakness - ERA, Best add on - Arroyo (because I couldn't remember the trade he just made)
25) Detroit Tigers - Down - Hard to tell why at first. They seem like a team who could jump up 10 spots in a week. If anything depth has been it but with plenty of prospects that happens. Should be a fun team maybe this sept or earlier the way players are getting call up. Strength - SB, Weakness - Kieboom being sent down, Best add on - Brooks
26) Boston Red Sox - Up - Started behind and got caught up quickly. Thought the break out player would be Caleb Ferguson, no, hello Caleb Smith. With Beaty just getting the call up and some players that can be tagged, there is a core to build around now. Strength - AVE, Weakness - team inherited, best add on - Avisail Garcia
27) Miami Marlins - Down - They are LEADING their division. Amazing how far this league has gotten. Can they sustain it, ummm, no. They would have had a shot, if not for Andujar heading to the table. The bullpen got them some wins. Strength - Save/Hold, Weakness - all other categories, Best add on - Andujar
28) St Louis - even - complete rebuild, Griffin Canning is kicking it off very well. best add on - Cespedes
29) Royals - even - complete rebuild, Shane Bieber will be locked up long term. best add on - Thornburg
30) Rangers - even - complete rebuild, Tapia breaking out and Biggio pushing for a call up. best add on - McCann
