What date do we use for our respective team's roster? For example, I select the Yankees (not on my life would I ever be associated with that club) do I use the players on their roster at the end of the WS, minus their FAs? Or do I get anyone on their roster at the time or our draft? For example, is Granderson a Yankee in our league or is he a Tiger?
Also, just a suggestion about the salaries. Being that some players, anyone represented by the snake, Scott Boras, will not sign until very, very late...would it be better to just use the previous year's salary? Waiting for all the arbitration to end will be a long wait and we will not have an accurate picture of our salary when we start filling out our rosters. Example: Twins had a payroll of roughly 67m last season, but half of their team are under their control and are due raises. Their 2010 salary will be in the range of 85 - 90 before any FA signings, which is a significant amount to have to adjust our FA/trade plans.
excellent questions, the only thing that is 100% clear right now is we won't be officially using last year's salary for players, it will be the 2010 and beyond actual salary, but use 2009 as an estimate and increase that if appropriate in your estimate

Yes, current rosters is what we will use. I'm setting a tentative roster lock of December 19, so the current roster at that time is what we use. As of now, a player like Johnny Damon would NOT be eligible for the Yankees roster because he is not on them; he would be a free agent. Same goes for others like Holliday, Bay, Lackey, etc.
Draft order is coming later; still waiting for contact info and league constitution.

Maybe I am just missing it, but where does it state about a players current contract detials, especially in regards to option years. Are we going to honor them for 2010 or do they become FA that we have to tag now?
i.e. Cliff Lee or Josh Beckett, this is my biggest hold up in picking my team.

What happens to FA who aren't signed onto a team by the deadline? Say Damon signs with the White Sox on Jan. 20. Is he put on the White Sox team or do his stats just not count for next season? I'm just curious on how this will be handled.

Damon would be considered an FA for teams to sign after we choose our 50 man rosters. You would drop 1 of your players for free on your 10 man Minor league roster and then you will have 1 opening on your roster and assuming you have the cap space to fit Damon and you outbid the other 29 GM's. He would then be a member of your team. Same goes for anyone who is an FA in real life(Holliday, Bay, Lackey, etc...)

So we have to bid against the other GM's? Is there a set time where we would bid for these players or how does that work? So his real-life salary won't have any impact on this league? And why are we dropping a player from the minor league roster if Damon is in the majors?
Sorry for all the questions, but this may impact who I select.

He would become an FA. It would work just like all FA's in this league. It's in the rules.
You would drop a minor league player so that you have roster space to take on Damon. You can drop a major league player if you'd like but it would sitll cost you half of his salary, when you can drop one of the 10 for free.
He would have no salary until he is bid upon, then the highest AAS(average annual salary) will win him and his salary will be whatever that amount is.
It's all in the free agency rules. He'd become a basic unrestricted free agent in this league.

I realize you may have already made a decision on this matter, but would it make sense to lock the rosters after tonight's non-tender deadline? There could be some players (i.e. DJ Carrasco) who are on the team now but may not be tomorrow.
