The Rays and the Nationals have agreed on the following trade-
Rays send-
SP - Tyler Glasnow (LAD) - $25M (2024), FA (2025) SP - Ryne Nelson (ARI) - $0.74M (PP2/5) - Protected through 2027 RP - Josh Winckowski (BOS) - $0.74M (PP2/5) - Protected through 2026
Nationals send-
OF - George Springer (TOR) - $29M (2024-2025), FA (2026) MI - Jonathan India (CIN) - $3.7M (PP4/5) - Protected through 2025 P - Emerson Hancock (SEA) - $0.7M (PP1/5) - Protected through 2028
Rays accept, we are strong in the pitching area, and whilst we would have liked to have held onto Glasnow to see how he goes in a Dodgers uniform, he debuted 8 seasons ago and has yet to exceed 120 innings in a season, he no doubt has the right stuff, but is made of glass. I like Nelson also, and think he becomes a solid mid rotation player. Winckowski was sent at Prestons request.
I get some much needed batting for 2024 & 2025. Springer makes his return to the Rays a few years after I traded him away, he is still performing at a high level, and still provides both reasonable power and speed, he is paid overs, but presents as a good Restricted Tag at the close of 2025. India provides a good power/speed combination at MI. Emerson Hancock I believe will be the best pitcher in this deal, when this deal is reviewed in 2026-2028, he was very highly regarded, got injured, and has comeback strong, I look forward to his contribution starting from 2024.
Thank Preston for the talks, it had been a while since we talked, but this time round our respective team needs seem to have matched well.

Agreed with everything Donavan said and confirm. I think we’re both taking a leap of faith in certain respects here. I’m primarily dealing from a position of strength moving a couple bats to gamble on Glasnow, as pitching has been my Achilles heel for several years now. Getting money off the books was also very important to give me some ability to play in free agency to build a rounded team. Thanks to Donavan for the talks, which involved us each sticking our foot in the ground at various points, only to come back to the negotiating table.

As an aside, this finally concludes the long string of transactions relating back to an ill-fated Trevor Bauer waiver claim one deadline. Lesson learned there.
