As a Phillies fan, while I wasn't expecting them to draft Larry Greene, I actually think I'm a fan of the pick.
It's a break from their norm of drafting toolsy, unpolished players (not that Greene's polished by any means). Scouts say Greene has the most raw power among high schoolers in this draft, which is something our farm system needs dearly - only guy who has real power is Singleton.
I'm excited to see what they do with their picks today. There's still a few really intriguing names out there that they could get with pick 66.
And, wow, I knew the Rays had a ton of picks going into the draft, but it's simply ridiculous to see just how many they picked yesterday. By simple volume alone, they've probably got at least 2-3 good future major leaguers in that haul.

Continuing on my post yesterday, I like what the Phillies did a lot yesterday.
We have a dearth of non-outfield position prospects in the system. Other than Valle, Singleton, and maybe Galvis at SS (though unless his bat picks up, Vizquel's pretty much his best upside), they really had no one. Not only that, but they hadn't made infielders a priority in past years, instead focusing on OF and P.
This year, they drafted a whole truckload of C, SS, and 3B prospects (and surely will get some 2B from converted SS). The biggest name for me is Tyler Greene, who the Phils picked at 361 - I'm really hoping they get him signed. Hopefully Greene2 (Larry and Tyler) will end up being a formidable force for the Phils. They also picked up a couple projectable high school - kind of the Phils' M.O. when it comes to the draft - that they can develop.
Overall, not the flashiest draft - I give that title to the Nationals, who now officially scare me as the future perennial N.L. East Champions - but certainly one that gives me, as a Phillies fan, hope for the future.
I apologize to anyone who isn't a Phillies fan for going a bit in-depth here. I used to write some for phuturephillies.com and, as such, have a passion for the Phillies minor league system.
