I really have an issue with the fact that a deal like this would be vetoed in this league. The fact that its no big deal bothers me preston. Miami is clearing a ton of cap and giving themselves a chance to go in any direction they want. In doing so they added some nice pieces to help along the way. I think the TP here has an unrealistic view of what the super star players should bring in terms of prospects etc... There is no way a deal like this should be vetoed can you please explain what would make it so unfair that it would be?
About the real life trade itself I like it for both sides. obviously the jays will be better for it now getting 3 very quality players but I think Miami has some flexibility to go whatever direction they want now and it is TBD what direction that is.
Calm down?? Im not worked up just asking a question..If that is the only reason it would be vetoed is because of the amount of players then i understand. If its because of the quality of the players I dont understand that.

Are you guys really in support of this trade? Completely alienated what fans were left in Miami, making sure that no free agent will ever want to sign there again as long as Loria is still owning the team. Pissed off all of the players still on the team, making it so that Giancarlo won't stick around. This trade only works in fantasy formats, where even then the prospects still aren't that overwhelming for the talent given up by Miami.

I would agree that the trade makes no sense. This is a usual Marlins fire sale and dont know if anyone will want to go see the Marlins in real life now, not as long as Loria is the owner thats for sure. This is not a move to prep for "future" this is a plain and simple "cut all the salary because we wont be having much attendence revenue coming in" kind of move. If I was a Marlins fan, I would be absolutely pissed, especially if any of my hard earned tax dollars went to help fund that stupid stadium of theirs.
As far as a fantasy prespective for a dynasty league, we have seen the going price for players in the league and this would be an easy veto, IMO. Yes, one year of JJ and high contracts on Reyes and Buehrle, but we have franchise tags available and we can cut guys and only pay half of contracts here, unlike real life where they are guaranteed no matter what. The prospects are not even that great. Marsnick is maybe a top 30 player, and Nicolino is maybe top 50-60. Alveraz is a very avg pictcher, Escobar doesnt even know if he wants to play, and Hevavirria sucks as well as Mathis. Reyes plays an elite position and produces, JJ showed that he is healthy and held up all last year. Buerhle just throws 200innings every year.
So I dont know how we could just bat and eye and just pass this deal. That would devoid one team of absolutely all of its ML talent. There arent that great of players available every year in FA, and the contracts are usually worse in FA, than in real life.
119-94-1 Regular Season Record 6-3 Playoff Record
6x AL West Champion (2012-2016,2023) 2x AL Pennant Winner (2013,2015) 2015 PBs World Series Champion (19-3-1)
making sure that no free agent will ever want to sign there again as long as Loria is still owning the team.
I've heard other people make this argument as well. I don't get it. I'm sure plenty of guys want to live in Miami and earn income in a state with some of the lowest tax rates in the country.
*edit: especially if the contract offer from miami is the most valuable on the table.

That's the thing though, they want to play in Miami. Reyes thought he would be playing in Miami for 7 years, not Canada. Unless the start allowing no trade clauses, players won't agree to deals.
